George Dawson ’13
Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and The Annual Fund Development Department George Dawson '13 has been connected to the Development Office at Cardinal Hayes High School dating back to his service as a Hayes student volunteer spending numerous evenings making Development Phone Bank outreach calls or giving tours to visitors. Our 2020 Monsignor Thomas McCormack Young Alumni award recipient, George has served Hayes Students as Defensive Coordinator of the NYCHSFL AAA Champion Football Program where he prides himself-- not on the number of tackles, sacks, interceptions, or even wins and losses, but on the high number of Hayes student-athletes enrolled in accredited colleges and universities, and the number who have graduated from our school during his tenure. Since graduating from Fordham University with a B.A. in Business Economics, George has routinely supervised students in the weight room during the off-season without compensation-- displaying the highest levels of dedication to Hayes students and our school community. Before returning to Hayes, George worked as a Marketing Research Assistant at McGivney, Kluger & Cook, P.C., and a Staff Mentor at Wings Academy High School in The Bronx, New York, as well as a season playing Professional Football for the National Arena League. During George's noteworthy career as a student-athlete at Fordham University, George was rare two-time Captain of the Football Program and earned Patriot League All-League Honors. He balanced athletics with a rigorous schedule, including active participation in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Fordham Leadership Academy, which is a Leadership Study Program in Sports Psychology.
Ray Walker proudly serves as the Director of Alumni Engagement and Interim Director of Development at Cardinal Hayes and enjoys the work of "connecting Hayesmen to the school, and to each other, in meaningful ways." Ray comes to Hayes from his alma mater, Deerfield Academy, in Deerfield, Massachusetts, where he served as Assistant Director of Alumni Relations. Prior to his position at Deerfield, Ray served as Executive Director for Stokes Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to delivering the life-transforming experience of urban boarding school directly to students and school communities in need. He previously served the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn as the founding Director of Residential Life at New York's first Urban Boarding School for Young Men at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, after holding positions of increasing responsibility as a Program Manager in direct-care residential programs for adolescents in crisis. Ray, a Bronx native, started his professional career here in New York City in the early 90’s as a Residential Case Worker and Transitional Employment Manager at Fountain House after spending some time at Georgetown University, where he served as a Team Manager for the Hoyas under legendary Coach John Thompson II, prior to entering the workforce. Ray is the proud father of three children and actively serves in a volunteer capacity on the Fundraising Committee of Prep for Prep’s Alumni Council. He is also a former Board Member at Schomburg Charter School and Martin de Porres Schools, where he served as Chairperson of the Staff Development Support Committee. In terms of giving back to his own alma mater, Ray previously served on the Executive Committee of Deerfield Academy's Alumni Association as that group's Regional Support Committee Chairperson.
